Dekalb white

The Dekalb white is white-egg layer from Leghorn line. It's a performing breed with a calm behaviour.

When Hendrix Genetics was founded in 2005, SFPA - which is the Poultry distribution la division of the group  - has choosen to produce and distribute the Dekalb White, formerly bred by Hendrix Poultry Breeders in Netherlands.

This white egg Leghorn layer offers an excellent productivity. She shows also high adaptability to different types of housing systems, thanks to its calm temper and rusticity.

Good performances got in aviary system and free-range without beak treatment.

The Dekalb white fits to cage production (previous and new welfare regulations) for ovoproducts production, free-range, floor and aviary systems.

Key Dates:

1944: Foundation of Dekalb Poultry Research, Inc. in Illinois (USA). DPRI is one othe the most respected poultry breeding companies in the world. It was one of the first modern breeding companies using inbred hybridisation techniques in poultry breeding

1971: DPRI acquired the J.J.Warren Company and its brown egg genetics lines to better serve the growing world wide demand for brown egg birds.

1974: Kimber Farms was acquired, adding important genetics for disease resistance and egg quality characteristics.

1995 : After 51 years of successful layer breeding, the breeding Poultry business is sold to Central Farms of Americas and becomes Dekalb Genetics Corporation. The new co go ahead with genetic research and development programs to improve the performance of egg-laying hens.  Central Farm of America is a holding corporation 90% owned by The Central Farm of Japan, Ltd. and 10% by Toshoku, Ltd, a large Japanese trading company specialising in food products. Central Farm of Japan is owned by Toshoku, Ltd and has been a major customer of DPRI since the 1960s. Toshoku, Ltd. has been in  reorganisation proceedings since December 1997.

2000: Dekalb Poultry Research Inc. is bought by Hendrix Poultry Breeders BV from Toshoku.

2005 : ISA and SFPA join Hendrix Genetics. The breeding programs from both Hendrix Poultry Breeders and ISA benefit from the improvements of each company.

2007 : SFPA receive its first Dekalb White parent-stocks and start to sell the breed in France and Africa.

2009 : Dekalb White lines are included into the first worldwide official breakthrough Genomic Program.

2009: Extension Cycle 100 weeks for Pure Lines Dekalb White (renewed comitment of ISA in the future of Dekalb white).
